About a month ago I blogged about Jacob Kolk. One of the sources I referred to was his probate file. I’d requested the probate file from IRAD-SIU about ten years ago. It is several pages long and has been sitting in my ‘to do’ box all this time. The thought of scanning it seemed a bit overwhelming! But I did exactly that while I was preparing my post about Jacob. Little did I know that just a few short weeks later, Ancestry.com would make the entire file available online. Had I waited another month, I could have just downloaded the files and worked from there! The good news is that, even though I didn’t need these files, I have found files for several others in my family tree. Maybe the lesson here is that I should have scanned these things ten years ago??
In any event, Ancestry.com has just made a wealth of probate files available online AND they are giving FREE access this weekend! You can read more about this and find links on Michael John Neil’s Rootdig blog! So head on over and grab those images while you can! You’re welcome!
